BAHRAIN’S largest municipal council will host bi-weekly majlises to build stronger ties and interaction with constituents.
Northern Municipal Council chairman Dr Sayed Shubbar Al Wedaei said that the meetings, which will be held every other Thursday from 10am to noon, will aim to encourage open communication channels, and strengthen community involvement.
Called ‘Hayakum’ (which translates into ‘Welcome’ in the local tongue), the majlises also aim to raise awareness about the role of the municipal council.
“This is an amazing initiative and the name ‘Hayakum’ is from our local dialect and it’s a welcoming gesture for everyone to communicate with the council,” said Northern Municipality director general Lamya Al Fadhala.
“The open-door policy is the key to the hearts of constituents and all people really need is someone who can listen to them.”
Dr Al Wedaei also highlighted that ‘Hayakum’ aims to strengthen existing relationships and networks while forging new ones.
“The majlises will offer an opportunity to create a conversation and use input provided by visitors to reach decisions and create proposals,” he added.
“It will be a place where citizens and residents can meet with MPs, government executives, religious guests, charity representatives, cultural societies as well as business owners.
“People can share their concerns, recommendations, issues and solutions as well as ideas for services.”
