OFFICIALS at Bahrain Television are in deep slumber.
I have said this before, and I will say it again. They have no foresight, no vision and no knack for what people want to watch.
True, not many watch television these days with the advent of social media but whatever little viewership it has is also fast dwindling, thanks to unimaginative programming.
While not watching Bahrain TV regularly, a few days ago when, on the fourth day of Eid, as I chanced upon the news, I found it had reports on Al Dana Amphitheatre, followed by a bite on a woman entrepreneur and another one on a local designer.
And these news clips were followed by some Gulf, regional and world news. Of course, being the holiday, there was no local news.
Now, my question is: Why have such documentary-like features. In place of local news? Why cannot the bulletin begin with world news? On the top guns in the ministry in charge would know.
And that’s not all – as soon as the news ended, we saw the repeat telecast of the “Shams Al Bahrain” programme, which is normally broadcast in the morning. Lo and behold, it was an episode from almost six weeks ago!
Would it not have been better to show a documentary, an Arab or even a foreign film, a concert or a play instead?
Wake up, Bahrain TV. You are nowhere near the standards people in Bahrain want.
As I had written earlier, Bahrain Radio 102.7 FM broadcasts old football, volleyball, basketball and handball matches in the morning and evening! Imagine you are in the car on Friday morning in the height of summer and Bahrain Radio burdens you with a football match! I would say that’s evil.
Dear officials. Take advantage of what is at your disposal to broadcast what is useful to people and even if they are old programmes, they are still better than broadcasting old matches.
