FINANCING for Al Dur 2 Phase 2 Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) was approved unanimously by the Shura Council yesterday.
The project was inaugurated last month by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He had emphasised the kingdom’s commitment to enhancing energy efficiency and expanding electricity and water production capacity to consolidate development.
He had also said that Bahrain was keen to develop energy production projects in partnership with the private sector.
Also, the Shura Council members unanimously approved a mutual civil aviation agreement with Turkmenistan.
“Since Bahrain takes all necessary measures to promote international trade to develop the national economy and facilitate services to its citizens, its ratification of this agreement will lead to the promotion of trade through competition between air transport companies, which enhances economic development,” said the Shura Council’s foreign affairs, defence and national security committee in its report.
“This agreement will provide opportunities for co-operation and investment in the air transport sector leading to diversification of air services provided to the public, developed services and competitive process.
“It will also ensure the highest levels of security and safety for international air services, which will have a positive impact on strengthening Bahrain’s position at regional and international levels while also enhancing the position of Bahrain International Airport.”
Both the government-drafted legislations will be now ratified by His Majesty King Hamad following Parliament’s approval last month.
Meanwhile, the Shura Council members were also notified of the replies from Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Health Minister Dr Jalila Al Sayyed, Information Affairs Minister Dr Ramzan Al Nuaimi and Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Yasser Humaidan on queries related to their ministries.
Earlier yesterday, His Majesty ordered an end to the first session of the sixth legislative term starting today.
This follows approval by both chambers of the National Assembly of the 2023-2024 national budget.
Both the chambers will be back for the second session of the term in the second week of October.
