The 24th Island Classic charity golf tournament organised by the American Mission Hospital is set to begin today.
The famous high-profile event will be officially opened at 12pm.
It’s held every year under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad at His Majesty’s golf course in Safriya.
AMH Corporate CEO/ Chief Medical officer Dr George Cheriyan said, “First and foremost I would like to thank His Majesty King Hamad who has so kindly permitted the tournament to be held on his private golf course in Safriya once again. Golfers wait eagerly every year to get a chance to play on this challenging course.”
The tournament is designed as a handicapped team event and will follow the Florida format, in which all players play their shot from the position determined to be the best ball.
All players in a foursome team will have an equal opportunity to contribute to the overall outcome and score of the team.
Teams will be divided into two flights – Championship and Premier Flight and at the end of the three days of play, three winners from each category will be awarded.
Several side contests including Closest to the Pin, Longest Putt and the most accurate drive will also be conducted side by side.
Sponsors have once again shown tremendous support for the event with funds being raised for the Community Outreach Programmes. The three day tournament will end on Saturday.
