GULF WEEKLY-
Several netball sports stars who participated in a festive fundraising event at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club yesterday have raised BD800 in the name of two local causes.
The Top Shots Netball Club will be making the donation to the Bahrain Red Crescent Society’s Gaza Appeal and the Migrant Workers’ Protection Society.
“As a club we feel its important to give back to our local community and to look beyond our own worlds to support the needs of others,” said Top Shots Club Captain Molly Cramp.
“As one of the largest clubs in the league, it was important for us to maintain our reputation for openness and fun and do this in the most entertaining way possible.
“We believe netball in our community is about inclusivity and so we were delighted to have so many non-members join us to try out the sport and raise money and awareness for extremely important causes.”
The event included a mixed netball tournament, a raffle with prizes from a number of prominent local businesses and a bake sale of donated pastries from a bakery.
During the tournament, five-minute games were umpired by volunteers from across the island’s netball community including five bad elves who caused quite a bit of mischief on their side of the court!
“We’d like to thank all of our sponsors and volunteers from last night, the success of both the tournament and raffle wouldn’t have been possible without everyone coming together to pull this off,” she added.
