Bahrain remains committed to building a prosperous and inclusive future as it proudly contributes to the international community’s efforts to overcome current challenges.
This was highlighted by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in his opening statement of the third Voluntary National Review (VNR) 2026 report.
The VNR documents progress made by Bahrain in implementing the 2030 agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The latest report is structured across four chapters: Empowering People, Celebrating Heritage, Securing the Future, and Economic Sustainability.
SDGs are a set of 17 goals with 169 targets and 248 indicators that include eradicating poverty, hunger and gender discrimination while guaranteeing affordable and clean energy, climate action and quality education.
All UN member-states in 2015 agreed to work towards achieving the goals by 2030.
“The kingdom of Bahrain’s progress has always been powered by the ambition, talent and determination of its people,” said HRH Prince Salman in the latest report.
“Across generations, Bahrainis today demonstrate an enduring commitment to building a nation defined by opportunity, sustainable growth, and shared prosperity for all.
“This conviction drives the work of the government every single day.”
HRH Prince Salman added that under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad, Bahrain advances decisively toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and this global agenda is aligned with its own Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
“Today, national progress is increasingly defined by international co-operation. The challenges the world faces now, more than ever, require collaboration, dialogue and collective responsibility.
“Whether internationally, currently serving as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, or regionally, in its recent role as chair of the Arab League Council and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the kingdom of Bahrain is committed to the organs of multilateralism.”
HRH Prince Salman said the 2030 SDG agenda is ‘the multilateral framework we must collectively pursue to build a better world’.
“The kingdom is proud of its contribution and the whole of Bahrain is committed to advancing our common aspirations and building a future that is more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable for generations to come,” he added.
Sustainable Development Minister and Bahrain Economic Development Board chief executive Noor Al Khulaif said yesterday they have submitted the third VNR report for publication on the UN website, ahead of its presentation at the high-level political forum on sustainable development to be held at the UN headquarters in New York next month.
This year’s forum will be convened under the theme: ‘Transformative, equitable, innovative and co-ordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future for all’.
Ms Al Khulaif affirmed that with only four years remaining until the 2030 deadline, and at a stage that requires accelerating efforts towards achieving the 17 SDGs, the kingdom continues to advance steadily in consolidating its comprehensive development approach under the leadership of the King and the directives of HRH Prince Salman.
The minister added that the kingdom is maintaining its steadfast commitment to advancing sustainability efforts across the social, economic and environmental dimensions, despite the exceptional circumstances and escalating challenges in the region.
