FOOTBALL – Facundo Tobares scored a brace as Manama defeated Al Najma 3-2 in the ninth round of the Nasser Bin Hamad Premier League at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium last night.
Tobares put Manama ahead in the 13th minute, but Al Najma hit back three minutes later as Juninho scored the first of his two goals of the match in the 16th minute.
Tobares scored his second goal in the 55th minute to give Manama a 2-1 lead, and Ibrahim Al Khattal struck in the 70th minute to make it 3-1.
Juninho pulled one back for Al Najma with his second goal of the match in the 89th minute.
Last night’s win raised Manama’s tally to 11 points. They occupy the ninth position while Al Najma are sixth, on 12 points.
Meanwhile, in another ninth-round match last night, Al Hidd were held to a 2-2 draw by Busaiteen at the Shaikh Ali Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium in Arad.
Jacques Medina put Hidd ahead in the 22nd minute but Busaiteen found the equaliser three minutes later through Robson Silva, who scored from the penalty spot.
Hidd raised hopes of a victory by regaining the lead in the 30th minute through Mohammed Abdulwahab and leading 2-1 at half-time.
However, Hidd’s hopes were dashed in the 55th minute when Silva scored his second goal of the night, from a second penalty kick, to snatch a draw.
On Monday, East Riffa held Muharraq to a 2-2 draw to move into joint-second place with defending champions Al Khaldiya.
In another ninth-round match on Monday, Sitra defeated Al Hala 1-0.
