HANDBALL – AL Dair booked their tickets last night to the Golden Square semi-finals of the 2023-24 Khalid bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
Dair secured their place following a hard-earned 26-23 triumph over Al Tadhamun in their play-off contest, held at the Bahrain Handball Federation Arena in Um Al Hassam.
Dair led 12-9 at the half and did well to maintain their slim, three-goal advantage over the concluding 30-minute period.
Dair held a twice-to-beat advantage heading into the game, but will not be needing the return fixture as they are through to the last four. There, they will take on Al Najma, who have already claimed their direct Golden Square berth.
Najma and Al Shabab are the two teams already in the semis. They had finished as the top two clubs in the league standings at the end of the preliminary round, earning them their spots.
Meanwhile, the play-offs continue tonight with Al Ahli taking on Al Ittifaq. Ahli head into the clash with a twice-to-beat advantage. Should Ittifaq win, the two teams will face off once again on Tuesday next week.
This evening’s game is scheduled for a 7pm start at the same venue.
The winners of the Ahli-Ittifaq affair will next take on Shabab in the semi-finals.
Najma are the four-time defending league champions and are gunning for an unprecedented fifth straight crown this season. Shabab, however, are looking to end that run and avenge their loss in last year’s league final.
