Mazad, a Bahraini online auction platform owned by Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat, announced its foray into the luxury goods market with a curated auction of natural Bahraini pearls.
The auction, running until July 14, offers a unique opportunity for pearl enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
Mazad will showcase a selection of exceptional pearls sourced from Bahraini pearl divers, preserving the cultural tradition and passion for this historical practice. The Danat-certified pearls will include premium pieces, encompassing a diverse range of shapes, sizes and colours.
Mr Al Araifi
“For centuries, Bahrain’s marine environment has produced some of the world’s finest pearls, coveted by international jewellers and collectors,” said Mazad chief executive Talal Al Araifi.
“This auction leverages the renowned reputation of Bahraini pearls, attracting seasoned buyers and contributing to the national economy through this valuable natural resource.”
The online-exclusive auction allows participation from across the region. Each pearl boasts unique characteristics and weight, ranging from 0.5 carats to a remarkable 9.28-carat symmetrical drop pearl. Bidders can compete for individual pearls, pairs, or mixed parcels.
“We aim to bring together a discerning community to appreciate the exquisite beauty and intrinsic value of Bahrain’s natural treasures,” added Al Araifi.
“This expansion into luxury goods marks the beginning of a broader offering, including fine art, jewelry, watches and collectibles. We cater to the region’s discerning buyers and sellers, providing a trusted platform for unique and rare luxury items that embody exceptional craftsmanship and timeless elegance.”
The auctioned pearls, sourced directly from Bahraini divers under strict government oversight for environmental protection and sustainable practices, are all certified as genuine natural pearls by the Bahrain Institute of Pearls and Gemstones (Danat). This certification guarantees the authenticity and quality of the pearls on offer.
