BAHRAIN plans to totally privatise vehicle technical inspections by July next year.
Traffic authorities will assign the inspections to private centres licensed by them in three stages, Director General of Traffic Brigadier Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa announced yesterday.
The plan includes opening 11 technical inspection centres for light and heavy vehicles and motorcycles, in accordance with the requirements of the General Directorate of Traffic and under its direct supervision.
Brigadier Shaikh Abdulrahman said it will include qualifying and training private sector employees to provide the technical inspection service with high efficiency.
During the first phase, which will start on August 1, the licensed private centres will inspect all light vehicles and motorbikes that are not more than 10 years old without visiting the General Directorate of Traffic.
In the second phase, which is scheduled for the beginning of next year, the private centres will examine all light vehicles and motorbikes of all age categories.
In the third and final, which begins on July 1 next year, these centres will take charge of the inspection of all other types of vehicles, including heavy vehicles and public transportation.
Brigadier Shaikh Abdulrahman called on the people to co-operate to develop the services provided by the traffic directorate.
