A senior MP has urged authorities not to cut the power supply to residents citing chronic illnesses during the summer, writes Mohammed Al A’Ali.
Parliament foreign affairs, defence and national security committee chairman Abdulla Al Romaihi asked the Electricity and Water Authority to show mercy following complaints from people that the supply has been cut due to late payments.
“All we ask is for the authorities to show mercy as many of those underprivileged people are dependent on electricity for medical devices such as ventilators and pacers,” he said.
“It is the state’s right to collect owed payments, but cutting electricity now as temperatures soar is not the right approach.”
He asked Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Yasser Humaidan to look into the matter.
