FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN has affirmed its full support for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the Fifa World Cup in 2034.
Bahrain Football Association president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa underscored that Saudi has all the necessary attributes to successfully host the world’s biggest football event.
He emphasised the strong ties between Bahrain and Saudi, reflecting the visions of His Majesty King Hamad and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, as well as the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He noted that Saudi’s initiative to host the Fifa World Cup 2034 aligns with the vision of Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, marking a milestone in the country’s sports development.
Shaikh Ali highlighted that Bahrain’s support for Saudi’s bid aligns with the directives of His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. This support also aligns with the initiatives of SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Ali called on all associations to unite behind Saudi’s bid, stating that this support would showcase the significant progress of Saudi football at both Asian and international levels. He praised the efforts of those leading Saudi Arabia’s bid, including Minister of Sports and Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee president Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, and Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) president Yasser Al Misehal.
Shaikh Ali reiterated Bahrain’s belief in the prominent role of SAFF in advancing Asian and international football. He expressed full confidence that Saudi’s hosting of the World Cup will be a success, enhancing the kingdom’s position on the global stage and benefiting the sport worldwide.
