Oman's Bab Al Salam Mosque in Muscat has been recognised as one of Time magazine's "World's Greatest Places" for 2024. The mosque, designed by the Omani firm Altqadum, features a tranquil complex of blush-coloured circular structures and is celebrated for its minimalist design that emphasises natural light. The mosque's dome is adorned with over 1,600 crystal bulbs that create a stunning chandelier effect in the main prayer hall.
Time magazine highlights the mosque as an architectural masterpiece that blends contemporary design with traditional Islamic elements. The mosque was built with support from the Al Jisr Charitable Foundation and focuses on creating a spiritual experience for worshippers. The design incorporates features such as a women's prayer hall, serene gardens, and environmentally sustainable elements that optimise natural light and reduce energy consumption.
Time magazine's selection process for the "Greatest Places in the World" includes nominations from its network of editors that chose to highlight the significance of Bab Al Salam Mosque as well as other notable global destinations.
