JIU-JITSU – BAHRAIN came away with an impressive haul of nine medals, including four gold, in the AJP Tour Amman International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024, held in Jordan.
Mahmood Alnajjar and Alaa Hasan each won two gold medals apiece for the kingdom’s national team. The squad also came away with another four silver medals, and one bronze, the Bahrain Combat Sports Council (BCSC) confirmed yesterday.
Alnajjar and Hasan were the stars for Bahrain, securing their golden double in style. Alnajjar first won in the men’s gi purple belt professional 77kg category. Mansour Tabbaa of Jordan took silver while Husain Faraj of Kuwait claimed the bronze medal.
Alnajjar then also triumphed in the men’s no-gi purple belt professional 77kg division. Faraj was this time the silver-medallist and Tabbaa the bronze medal winner.
Hasan won her two medals in the women’s gi blue belt amateur 62kg class and the women’s no-gi blue belt amateur 62kg division. Lea Habbouche of Lebanon finished second in both categories, while Razan Abu Al Homos of Palestine took the bronze in the gi competition.
Bahrain’s four silver medals were won by Mohammed Swar and Ahmed Al Aradi, who claimed two each.
Swar took his first silver in the men’s gi purple belt professional 56kg class, and then added a silver in the men’s no-gi purple belt professional 56kg division. Al Aradi bagged a silver in the men’s gi black belt master one 120kg category and then added another in his adults competition.Al Aradi then captured Bahrain’s lone bronze medal in the men’s no-gi black belt professional 120kg division.
The national team’s haul in the AJP Tour Amman International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024 added to their four medals in the Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union Regional Championship West Asia 2024, also held in Amman, as reported last week in the GDN.
Bahrain finished sixth amongst the eight nations that made it onto the medal table in the competition.
Following their fine medal haul, BCSC board member and Bahrain Jiu-Jitsu Federation president Redha Monfaradi expressed his delight in their success and congratulated the national team on their achievements in both high-level championships.
