A Dubai court has ordered a company to pay a former employee in dirhams and cryptocurrency after they lost an arbitrary dismissal case.
According to reports, the employee's contract stipulated wage payment in UAE dirhams and EcoWatt Tokens. But the employer hadn't paid 5,250 EcoWatts for six months. On complaining about the issue, the employee was wrongfully terminated.
The employee then filed a wrongful termination suit against the employer, and the court eventually ruled in favour of the employee. The company will now be forced to pay the former employee their due wages in EcoWatts.
This ruling is a significant step forward in legitimising cryptocurrency as a valid form of remuneration in the UAE.
