Bahrain’s economy, one of the most attractive in the world, has received more than $15.6 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) since the last Gateway Gulf forum six years ago, Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa said yesterday.
“This is a testament to the confidence the world has in our potential,” said Shaikh Salman, speaking at the opening of the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum 2024.
He emphasised that this surge in FDI reflects global confidence in Bahrain’s economic potential. Key players like Amazon Web Services, which established the region’s first cloud data centre in Bahrain in 2019, are spearheading the kingdom’s digital transformation, supported by government initiatives such as the ‘cloud-first’ policy and the unique data sovereignty law.
Being held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the two-day event was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa. Hosted by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (Bahrain EDB) at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, the forum will delve into the critical issues facing the future of business under the theme ‘Investing in a Rapidly Transforming Region’.
