MMA – THE year 2024 proved to be a legacy-defining year for Bahrain’s mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Hamza Kooheji.
After being side-lined for two years due to a devastating injury, Kooheji made a triumphant return to the cage, securing two dominant victories.
Kooheji’s hiatus followed his decision win over Eduardo Mora at Brave CF 65 in Bahrain in 2022. During his time away, he focused on self-improvement and mentoring the next generation of MMA fighters in Bahrain. Once cleared to compete, Kooheji wasted no time, returning to the regional circuit in August and securing a first-round knockout victory in Belarus.
Despite this win, many questioned whether Kooheji could replicate his success upon returning to Brave CF, especially as he faced Alperen Karabulut at Brave CF 91 in Bahrain. The pre-fight trash talk and Alperen’s impressive resume across multiple disciplines only amplified these doubts.
However, Kooheji silenced his critics by delivering one of the most dominant performances of the year. He completely outclassed his Turkish opponent, securing a second-round stoppage victory. Kooheji allowed no room for Alperen to mount any offense, announcing his return to the global stage in spectacular fashion.
In his post-fight interview, Kooheji expressed his ambition to capture the Brave CF world title and stated he is eager to fight again soon, as it would bring him closer to achieving his goal.
The highlight of the year came just two days after his victory, with the release of the movie Hamza Kooheji: The Untold Story in Bahrain. Directed by Bahraini filmmaker Ahmed Bucheery, the film offers a close look into Kooheji’s struggles and successes throughout his career and is bound to serve as an inspiring documentary for MMA fighters and fans worldwide.
Kooheji’s dominant return in 2024, following a long injury layoff, has set the stage for an exciting 2025. The ‘Pride of Bahrain’ now aims to bring the Brave CF world title home and continue inspiring the next generation of MMA fighters around the globe.
