Artists across the kingdom are being urged to pick up their paint brushes and give one of Bahrain’s oldest animal shelters a fitting facelift on its plain exterior wall.
The Bahrain Animal Rescue Centre (BARC), which houses more than 300 dogs and cats in Hamala, has invited muralists and creatives to donate their time to add colour and inspiration to the centre’s base.
“We are looking for artist or artists who have worked on large-scale projects and have previous experience in creating murals, as well as someone who can lead the project from start to finish,” senior volunteer Soha Al Awadhi told the GDN.
“The artists would have to donate their own supplies to create the piece as the shelter is so short of funds. But once the mural is completed, the names of those involved will be added, providing an excellent opportunity for them to display their work, talent and collaborative skills.”
She highlighted that the mural should feature colourful and positive paintings of dogs to convey the wonderful energy that animals bring to the world.
“Even though these murals don’t necessarily affect the animals, it definitely affects the people visiting the shelter, as well as the volunteers.
“Seeing uplifting artwork every time we come to the shelter would make the team even more upbeat, which will undoubtedly benefit the animals. It is also a community project, so it will be great to see individuals coming together for the greater good of the shelter, as well as the animals.”
The GDN earlier reported that volunteers at the centre were close to completing a new project of establishing adequate power supplies thanks to a generous individual who had donated solar panels, allowing the centre to have sufficient access to energy without continually worrying about the cost.
Established in 1999, BARC is the largest ‘no-kill’ shelter in Bahrain, with a mission to save local dogs and cats that are victims of abuse, abandonment or left homeless.
Selfless volunteers have helped hundreds of animals find furr-ever homes over the years and they urge people who are looking to add a new furry member to their family to adopt or foster one of their rescues.
