The Cabinet congratulated the leadership and said a special ‘Thank You’ to the fans of motorsport after Oscar Piastri recorded a first-ever victory in Bahrain for Mumtalakat-owned McLaren.
The session yesterday extended its congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on Bahrain’s successful hosting of the 2025 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, and on McLaren’s victory in the race at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), its first in Bahrain since the kingdom joined the Formula 1 calendar in 2004.
The Cabinet, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, highlighted the outstanding organisation of the 21st edition of the grand prix, which reflects the kingdom’s standing as a host of premier international sporting events.
This accomplishment builds on Bahrain’s vast achievements at the BIC over the past 21 years.
The national workforce from the Interior Ministry and the BIC, as well as several government authorities, who facilitated the success of the world-class sporting event, were also commended for their relentless efforts.
Ministers expressed their gratitude to motorsport fans in the kingdom and abroad for their enthusiastic participation and support.
A record-setting sell-out crowd of 105,000 visited BIC during the three days of the Grand Prix race weekend. On Sunday alone, 37,700 fans visited the circuit, cheering on their favourite drivers for the final race.
The track also set a record of 12,000 international fans who flew from around the world, including South Korea, Türkiye, India, Philippines, UK and more to enjoy the weekend.
This year’s F1 weekend was the fourth round of the 2025 FIA F1 World Championship, celebrating the 75th anniversary of both F1 and Bahrain’s national carrier and grand prix title sponsor Gulf Air. It was the first night race of the season, taking place under BIC’s bright, state-of-the-art floodlights and showed the world that ‘The Desert Never Sleeps’.
