Bahrain has secured a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term.
It followed a vote at the UN General Assembly in New York yesterday, where it received an overwhelming 186 out of 187 votes (99.5 per cent).
His Majesty King Hamad was congratulated on the victory by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
HRH Prince Salman affirmed that the election reflected international recognition of Bahrain’s diplomatic role and influence, in line with His Majesty’s forward-looking vision.
He emphasised that the kingdom’s growing global stature was the result of its consistent policies and steadfast commitment to upholding international peace and security.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister further underscored the kingdom’s growing international role and its dedication to multilateral co-operation in addressing global challenges, guided by the vision of the King.
He conveyed his appreciation for the efforts of Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani and the ministry’s team in securing the diplomatic achievement.
HRH Prince Salman also expressed pride in the efforts of Team Bahrain, whose contributions have further strengthened the kingdom’s global position, wishing them continued success in serving Bahrain.
The Foreign Minister congratulated His Majesty, HRH Prince Salman and the people of Bahrain on the achievement.
Along with Bahrain, the General Assembly also elected Colombia, Congo, Latvia and Liberia for two-year terms starting on January 1.
