Housefull 5 is the latest iteration of a film franchise that has surprisingly entertained and made the bank at the box office for the last 15 years.
Hosting a star-studded cast featuring nearly 20 A-list stars, the film manages to both entertain and keep audiences hooked on its murder-mystery thriller storyline.
In such a stacked cast, it can often mean that a certain actor’s roles might not get the limelight for long enough or they don’t make an impact. Unfortunately, that is the case here too.
But if there’s one thing you can count on while watching a Housefull movie, it is that you will have a blast watching Akshay Kumar on screen. The actor proves why audiences have been yearning to see him play a comedic role once again. Combined with the shenanigans of Riteish Deshmukh and Johny Lever, these three really carry the movie through.
This trio really is the heart of the movie, consistently getting laughs each and every time they appear on screen. That’s not to say that the other characters aren’t funny. The script does a pretty good job of giving each and every character their albeit limited time to shine.
Most of the songs in the movie are pretty good too, the once exception being the last song, which felt out of place and unnecessary at that point in the run time.
The run time is another aspect working against the movie. The movie goes on for 165 minutes, and you can really start to feel how long the movie really is in the second half, where the comedy gives way to more thriller elements.
There are some nice throwbacks referencing the previous four films. But some of the jokes and gags have been very obviously stolen from other pieces of content.
The entire franchise has always been about adult-oriented comedy. But certain scenes in the latest iteration felt a little too adult, seeming out of place in the movie themselves.
Housefull 5 is also one of the first movies from India to have an alternate ending. Meaning that depending on which version you watch, either A or B, the killer at the end of the movie will be different.
Although this is very gimmicky, you do have to appreciate the filmmakers’ attempt to innovate.
Overall, Housefull 5 is a very entertaining comedy film that delivers on what audiences are expecting from the franchise.
Verdict: A fun time at the theatres with your friends.
