FOOTBALL – THE Bahrain Football Association (BFA) won a prestigious honour from Fifa at an awards ceremony on the sidelines of the Fifa Executive Football Summits, held in Miami, the US.
The event took place during the Fifa Club World Cup 2025.
The BFA’s National Performance Centre, located at the BFA headquarters in Riffa, won the Silver Award in the first Fifa Forward Awards for Fifa’s Asian member associations.
Participating in the Fifa Executive Football Summits were BFA vice-president Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa and BFA secretary general Rashid Alzaabi.
The meeting was chaired by Fifa president Gianni Infantino and was also attended by representatives from Fifa member associations.
Infantino presented the award to Shaikh Khalifa and Alzaabi, who in turn gave him a commemorative Bahrain shirt.
Currently in its third cycle that runs through to 2027, Fifa Forward is providing member associations with up to $8million to fund development projects.
The Fifa Forward Awards were introduced in 2023 to recognise the capacity-building work of European member associations with the funding they receive, and they have now been extended to Asia and Oceania member associations to recognise their work in developing infrastructure.
Aside from Bahrain, projects in Singapore, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan were also recognised with awards.
