India’s premier investigation agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has filed charges against two Indian nationals in connection with two murder cases in Bahrain and the UAE, at the request of the governments of both countries, an official said.
Bahrain had submitted an extradition request for Subash Chander Mahla, who worked as a driver in the kingdom, and allegedly murdered his employer on January 31, 2011 after being “aggravated by his misbehaviour,” said a CBI statement.
“He reportedly hit him with a blunt object, causing injuries that proved fatal,” the statement added.
The agency previously said that Mr Mahla was sentenced to life in absentia for the murder of Mohammed Sultan Al Motawa.
The CBI added that on the basis of the extradition request received from Bahrain, the Indian External Affairs Ministry referred the matter to the agency for launching local prosecution against Mr Mahla.
“CBI registered a case under section 302 and 404 of the Indian Penal Code against Subash Chander Mahla for murder of his employer in Bahrain and began investigation,” said the statement.
In a similar incident in the UAE, Inder Jit Singh allegedly murdered fellow countryman Rama Lingam Natesan on August 28, 2008, after a dispute broke out between the two over BD30 in unpaid phone bills.
According to reports, Natesan had asked Singh’s employer to deduct the amount from his salary, leading Singh to hatch a plan to kill Natesan, whom he allegedly attacked with a sharp knife.
The GDN reported last week that a notorious criminal wanted in two murder cases was arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport upon his return from Bahrain.
Indian authorities said the accused, Nishar Hasan, returned to India recently, and was later taken to Jamshedpur.
Police have registered seven criminal cases against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. He is also being investigated for his criminal network, financing, arms supply routes and property investments.
