The Pakistani Women’s Association (PWA), in collaboration with Live FM 107.2, kicked off its 2025 Refreshment Drive at a construction site in Hamala, distributing insulated thermos bottles with cool beverages to workers braving the intense heat.
The event aimed to spread awareness about the importance of staying hydrated during summer and the environmental costs of single-use plastic bottles of water.

Health concerns have been raised too. Experts say reusing plastic bottles, especially when exposed to sunlight, can pose health risks due to chemical leaching. High temperatures and sunlight can cause chemicals like antimony, BPA and phthalates to migrate from the plastic into the water, potentially leading to cancer, hormone disruption and organ damage.
The PWA launched its summer thermos drive around four years ago to help labourers in the community and youngsters from PWA’s Youth Ambassador programme also took part in the initiative.
The Labour Ministry earlier announced the implementation of an edict prohibiting outdoor work from June 15 to September 15, between noon and 4pm.
