A video documentary featuring Filipino culture was released in Bahrain as part of a month-long celebration in the south-east Asian country to promote the national language.
Organised in partnership with the Filipino Club Bahrain (FCB) and other community groups, the event marked the conclusion of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa (National Language Month), an annual celebration in the Philippines in August to promote its national language.
Held under the theme “Cultivating Filipino and Native Languages: Historical in National Unity”, it highlights the importance of both the national language and local dialects in preserving and enhancing the peoples’ identity and pride.
FCB president Rosemarie Hernandez underlined the need to preserve the Filipino national language and native dialects in a rapidly evolving world.
“In an era of swift change, it is increasingly vital to appreciate our national language and native dialect, because within each word resides our history, culture and identity as a nation,” she said.
She also urged Filipinos, particularly the youth, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and those residing abroad to use the national language more frequently.
