Bahrain and Egypt signed a series of agreements in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and Egyptian Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly, in Cairo yesterday.
The agreements include:
- A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) and Aluminium Company of Egypt (Egyptalum) regarding investment co-operation to evaluate the feasibility of building an aluminium refining plant in Egypt. It was signed by Finance and National Economy Minister and Mumtalakat chairman Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and Holding Company for Metallurgical Industries executive managing director Mohamed Al Saadawi.
- An MoU between the Bahrain Economic Development Board (Bahrain EDB) and Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) regarding strengthening bilateral investment relations. Sustainable Development Minister and Bahrain EDB chief executive officer Noor Al Khulaif and General Authority for Investment and Free Zones CEO Hossam Heiba signed it.
- An MoU on strategic co-operation between Exhibition World Bahrain and the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, building upon a previously signed memorandum during the presidential visit to Bahrain in June 2022. It was signed by Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani and Egypt’s Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Hassan Al Khatib.
- An Agreement on the Authorised Economic Operator Programme between Bahrain’s Customs Affairs and Customs Authority of Egypt’s Finance Ministry. It was signed by Dr Al Zayani and Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk.
- An MoU for co-operation in the tourism sector between Bahrain’s Tourism Ministry and Egypt’s Tourism and Antiquities Ministry. Dr Al Zayani and Mr Kouchouk signed the deal.
- An accord regarding co-operation in the field of antiquities and museums between Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and Egypt’s Tourism and Antiquities Ministry, signed by Dr Al Zayani and Mr Kouchouk.
- An MoU on co-operation in the protection of competition between Bahrain’s Industry and Commerce Ministry and Egyptian Competition Authority, signed by Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro and Mr Kouchouk.
- An agreement on technical co-operation, the exchange of expertise, and capacity building in the sustainable development sector between the Sustainable Development Ministry and the Planning, Economic Development and International Co-operation Ministry of Egypt. It was signed by Ms Al Khulaif and Egypt’s Planning, Economic Development and International Co-operation Minister Dr Rania Al Mashat.
Several agreements were also signed ahead of HRH Prince Salman’s meeting with Dr Madbouly. They include:
- An MoU in labour and human resources between the Labour Ministries, signed by Dr Al Zayani and Mr Kouchouk.
- An agreement on the establishment of a council for urban planning between the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry and the Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Ministry of Egypt. It was signed by Dr Al Zayani and Mr Kouchouk.
- A pact on the establishment of a Bahraini-Egyptian youth council between the Youth Affairs Ministry and Egypt’s Youth and Sports Ministry.
- An MoU to invite Egyptian construction companies to participate in tenders for the Government Land Rights Development Programme in Bahrain.
- An MoU regarding co-operation between the Social Insurance Organisation (SIO) and the National Social Insurance Authority of Egypt.
- An MoU between the Social Development Ministry and the Social Solidarity Ministry of Egypt for co-operation in the field of social affairs.
- A lunch banquet was held by Dr Madbouly in honour of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister and the accompanying delegation’s visit to Egypt.
