Bahrain Championship to be held from January 29
GOLF – The next edition of the prestigious Bahrain Championship golf tournament on the DP World Tour is set to take place from January 29 to February 1 next year at the Royal Golf Club.
The DP World Tour’s 2026 calendar was announced yesterday, with the new season set to feature a minimum of 42 tournaments in 25 different countries worldwide.
The Bahrain Championship is the kingdom’s biggest golf event, which attracts top players from around the world.
Next year’s competition is part of the series’ International Swing, which also features tournaments in the UAE, Kenya, and South Africa.
The Bahrain Championship in 2026 will be the third time it is to be held. England’s Laurie Canter was crowned champion of this year’s event, while South Africa’s Dylan Frittelli was the winner in 2024.
The International Swing is one of five on the DP World Tour’s Global Swings phase.
The others are the Opening Swing, the Asian Swing, the European Swing, and the Closing Swing. The calendar also features two other phases, namely the Back 9 and the DP World Tour Play-Offs.
Players will compete for a record total prize fund of $157.5 million – outside the Major championships – on golf’s worldwide Tour next season.
“Our 2026 schedule once again showcases our global talent in global destinations as we celebrate the diversity of the courses and cultures we visit,” said DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings.
“The five Global Swings, the Back 9 and the DP World Tour Play-Offs provide a compelling season-long narrative on the Race to Dubai, comprising many historic national Opens and international events that have an enduring appeal to our members and our fans.
“Our thanks go to our partners, broadcasters, promoters, federations, and partner Tours for their support and commitment to the DP World Tour, and we look forward to once again spotlighting the considerable depth of international talent we have on golf’s global tour.”
The DP World Tour’s Opening Swing gets the 2026 season underway with events in Australia, South Africa, and Mauritius.
Following the International Swing, the Asian Swing will take place with tournaments in China, India, and Türkiye, and then the European Swing will take place with events in Span, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany.
The Closing Swing will comprise tournaments in Scotland, England, the Dominican Republic, and Denmark.
The Back 9 will then hold competitions in England, Switzerland, Ireland, France, Scotland, Spain, India, and South Korea; setting the stage for the DP World Tour Play-offs, to be held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE.
