HANDBALL – AL Ahli and Al Ettifaq were both victorious last night as week two got underway in the 2025-26 Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
Ahli were convincing 40-24 winners against Samaheej at the Bahrain Handball Federation Arena in Um Al Hassam. They held a 17-11 lead at the break and never wavered.
Ettifaq, meanwhile, edged past Tubli 26-25. Ettifaq overcame a slim 7-9 deficit at the interval to come away with the win in their first opening fixture of the new campaign.
There are 11 teams in all challenging for this year’s title. The others are defending champions Al Najma, Al Dair, Barbar, Al Tadhamun, Al Shabab, Al Ettihad, and Bahrain Club.
Matches are to be played in a double round-robin, after which the top four clubs will advance to the Super League, which will eventually determine the season’s overall champions. The teams ranked fifth through eighth will qualify for the lower-tier President’s Cup.
The second week of play continues this evening with Ettihad facing Tadhamun at 5.30pm followed by Barbar playing Bahrain Club at 7.15pm. Tomorrow, a major clash between Najma and Shabab will then be held at 7pm.
All matches are taking place at the same venue.
