CHESS – FIDE Master Husain Ayyad was crowned overall champion in the Bahrain Chess Championship 2025, which came to a close after nine days of play at Muharraq Youth Centre.
Ayyad won the title after scoring eight of a possible nine points. He put in a strong performance and maintained a high technical level throughout the rounds. Candidate Master Ali Al Ghasra finished in second place with 7.5 points, while Fide Master Maher Ayyad was third with 6.5 points.
In the women’s competition, Najla Ahmed was crowned champion. She had also claimed fourth place overall with 6.5 points, but due to tournament regulations, was recognised for her women’s category success. Dania Obaid took second place amongst the women, while Reem Alsalman came third.
A number of promising players participating in the various age-groups were also honoured in a move aimed at supporting emerging talents in the game. They included Mohammed Taqi in the under-20, Hussein Al Wardi in the under-18, Noah Rajab in the under-16, Haider Ali Hassan in the under-14, Ali Al Abbas in the under-12, and Ali Al Qallaf in the under-10.
Meanwhile, Wafiq Nizar took first place in the amateur's category. Duaij Mohammed came second, and Ali Kazim was third.
The championship was held under the Swiss system, and it was supervised by accredited referees.
