MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British GT team 2 Seas Motorsport celebrated another sensational title victory yesterday in a major European championship.
Operating the #33 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo of Verstappen.com Racing, 2 Seas helped their partner squad secure the Gold Cup crown in the 2025 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
2 Seas and Verstappen.com Racing were amongst their category’s front-runners all throughout the GT World Challenge Europe season, and they finally secured their title in the campaign’s fifth and final round last night at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. There, the trio of Harry King, Chris Lulham, and Thierry Vermeulen claimed a podium in class with third place, earning enough points to come away with their Gold Cup champions’ trophy.
They had secured fourth in class on the start grid after clocking a best lap time of one minute 41.117 seconds during qualifying, held earlier yesterday ahead of the gruelling, three-hour race.
They then did enough in the curtain-closing event, moving up one position for their place on the Gold Cup podium. King was in the car at the chequered flag, and he followed winners in class Garage 59 in a McLaren 720S GT3 Evo and runners-up Al Manar Racing by WRT in a BMW M4 GT3 Evo.
“I had to be a little more intelligent over the last few laps of the race, but we banked the points we ultimately needed to win the championship,” King said post-race after successfully holding on to his position amongst Gold Cup runners while taking 25th overall amongst the 60-car field.
“It’s a credit to the team – they’ve done a fantastic job all year, Verstappen.com and 2 Seas, and it’s been a pleasure to share this alongside Thierry and Chris, so I think the championship is a credit to them all,” King added.
Vermeulen said: “It’s been good to be a part of this season, we were quickest amongst all Astons all weekend, so that is something to be proud of to end the season like that.”
Commented Lulham: “We’ve had such a smooth endurance season with no or little faults from everyone – 2 Seas Motorsport as well, Thierry and Harry. We had strong qualifying laps and the pace this weekend across our manufacturer was very strong.”
2 Seas were fresh from capturing an unprecedented title double last weekend in the 2025 British GT Championship, and both of their drivers who accomplished that feat were also in action yesterday in 2 Seas’ #222 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
Newly crowned British GT drivers’ champions Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss joined Thomas Lebbon in the Bronze class this weekend, and they finished yesterday’s race 10th in class and 44th overall.
They had started the event eighth in class on the grid after posting a fastest lap of 1:41.267 in yesterday’s qualifying runs. Their participation over the weekend marked only their second appearance in the Bronze Cup this season in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
