ATHLETICS – Athletes from the Gulf secured gold medals last night on the concluding day of athletics competitions in the third Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.
The UAE quartet of Laila Safeenah, Arwa Ashar, Ezza Nael, and Aisha Tariq struck gold in the girls’ medley relay, while Yasmeen Roy from Kuwait secured the crown in the girls’ high jump.
Meanwhile, athletes from China and Uzbekistan captured two golds apiece yesterday.
Uzbekistan’s Anastasiya Silchenkova won the girls’ 3,000m gold medal while compatriot Parizoda Talabova clinched gold in the girls’ javelin throw.
China’s boys’ medley relay team of Xiaohai Lin, Jianguang Lai, Tianci Zhu, and Jia Yang were the gold-medallists in their event, while Yiqing Xie won the girls’ triple jump gold medal.
Rounding out yesterday’s gold medal winners were Cheng-yu Wang from Chinese Taipei in the boys’ 3,000m, Tanakorn Daengmanee in the boys’ pole vault, and Maxim Sazhnev from Kazakhstan in the boys’ discus throw.
