FUTSAL – Iran will play in the finals of both the girls’ and boys’ futsal tournaments in the third Asian Youth Games in Bahrain. The Iranian girls qualified for their title match with a nail-biting 3-1 penalty shootout victory over Chinese Taipei in their semi-final contest yesterday at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town, which ended deadlocked at 2-2 after regular time.
They will take on China in the girls’ gold medal game, scheduled for tonight at 7pm. The Chinese defeated Hong Kong 9-0 in yesterday’s other contest in the last four. Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong clash for the girls’ bronze medals at 4pm today.
On the distaff, Iran’s boys advanced to their final with a 14-2 triumph against Uzbekistan. They will take on Afghanistan, who beat Thailand 9-1. The Iranians and Afghans battle tomorrow for boys’ gold at 7pm, while the Uzbeks and Thais play for bronze at 4pm.
