SEVENTY-EIGHT expats were deported from Bahrain following the latest round of a nationwide campaign aimed at stamping out labour violations.
A total of 1,658 inspection visits and 26 joint campaigns, held from October 26 to November 1, also resulted in the identification of 18 irregular workers, said the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in a statement yesterday.
The joint campaigns were held in co-ordination with the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, the respective governorate’s Police Directorate, General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, and the General Directorate of Crime Detection and Forensic Evidence.
The Industry and Commerce Ministry, Social Insurance Organisation and the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority were also involved in the inspections.
Most of the joint campaigns were held in the Capital Governorate with 12, followed by Muharraq Governorate (seven), Southern Governorate (four) and Northern Governorate (three).
Since January last year, a total of 104,919 inspection visits and 1,481 joint campaigns have been conducted, resulting in 3,497 detentions and the deportation of 11,489 irregular workers.
The LMRA affirmed that it will continue to intensify inspection campaigns across the nation in co-ordination with the relevant entities.
It also reiterated its commitment to address any violations or practices that negatively affect the stability and competitiveness of the labour market or harm the economic and social security of the country.
People have been urged to support the efforts of government agencies in addressing illegal labour practices by reporting violations via the electronic form on the LMRA website www.lmra.gov.bh, by calling the authority’s call centre on 17506055 or via the government’s suggestions and complaints system, Tawasul.
