ATHLETICS – Bahrain’s Olympic champion Winfred Yavi stormed to a sensational victory in the women’s race of the XLIII Cross Internacional de Italica event in Sevilla, Spain.
The cross country meeting was a Gold-level competition on the World Athletics Cross Country Tour.
Yavi claimed a dominant win amongst a field of more than 40 women’s elite athletes from around the world.
She triumphed in a time of 28 minutes 58 seconds, finishing over half-a-minute ahead of runner-up Daisy Jepkemei from Kazakhstan, who was the runner-up in 29:36.
Likina Amebaw from Ethiopia came third in 29:37, while completing the top five were Celestine Jepkosgei Biwot (30:41) from Kenya and Maria Forero (31:07) from Spain.
Winning the men’s race was Rodrigue Kwizera from Burundi in 26:10.
