BASKETBALL – Bahrain's Muharraq secured their first victory of the Gulf sub-zone last night in the 2025-26 Fiba West Asia Super League (WASL) – the region’s premier clubs basketball tournament under the International Basketball Federation (Fiba).
The kingdom’s representatives defeated Al Ittihad from Saudi Arabia 84-79 in their Group A clash played at the Bahrain Basketball Association Arena in Um Al Hassam.
Nicholas Simon West had 25 points while Daniel Dominique Hamilton added 20 for the Bahrainis, who also got 18 points from Kerwin Roach Jr.
Muharraq’s win followed losses against Kazma SC of Kuwait and Shabab Al Ahli of Dubai.
Group B in the Gulf sub-zone features Sharjah SC from the UAE, Kuwait Club from Kuwait, Al Arabi from Qatar, and Al Ula SC from Saudi.
Muharraq are scheduled to return to action against Kazma at home on December 15, before playing at home once again on January 12 against Shabab Al Ahli.
They then lock horns with Ittihad in Saudi on January 19 in their concluding Group A fixture.
