BASKETBALL – AL Ahli edged past Al Hala 79-74 last night to make a winning start to the 2025-26 season of the Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Ahli led the entire contest and went up by as many as 14 points in the second half before fending off a stunning late surge by Hala.
An Ahmed Bindayneh three-pointer brought Hala to within 74-75 with just 54 seconds remaining, but then Ali Shukrallah scored with a tip-in and then Hesham Sarhan iced the game with just 12 seconds to play.
Sarhan and Elijah Tillman scored 21 points apiece to lead Ahli, while Shukrallah chipped in with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Abdulqader Thani paced Hala with 23 points while skipper Mohammed Hussain and Bindayneh scored 11 each.
League action continues today with Bahrain Club playing Isa Town, while tomorrow Samaheej take on Sitra and then Nuwaidrat face defending champions Muharraq.
