BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN Club defeated Isa Town 89-82 last night in their opening game of the 2025-26 Zain Bahrain Basketball League, played at Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex.
The victors took control of the game in the third quarter, where they outscored their opponents 30-16 to take a 66-53 lead into the final canto. There, they did enough to stay in front and hold off a late-charging Isa Town, who got as close as six points with just over a minute remaining.
Earlier in the contest, Bahrain Club had a strong start, powering ahead 21-14 at the end of the first quarter. But Isa Town battled back in the second and took a 37-35 lead with a Talal Qaheri lay-up. Mansoor Jaber had a free-throw right before the half-time buzzer to cut Bahrain Club’s deficit to just one.
But they turned the tables after the re-start, and poured in the game-changing 30 points in the third period. That put them firmly in control as they went up by as many as 17 points early in the final canto, en route to staving off Isa Town and holding on for the win.
Mansoor Jaber top scored for Bahrain Club with 25 points, while Ali Husain Baqer added 20 and Talal Ali Saeed finished with 16.
Habib Sami was Isa Town’s leading scorer with 15 points, while Jehad Ahmed chipped in with 14 in the loss.
With the result, Bahrain Club joined Al Ahli as early victors in the new season. Ahli beat Al Hala on opening night on Tuesday.
League action continues today with Samaheej taking on Sitra and then Nuwaidrat facing defending champions Muharraq.
