An urgent proposal calling for the regularisation of all temporary contract employees in ministries and government agencies is set for debate during Parliament’s session today.
MPs have also urged the government to provide permanent jobs for Bahrainis employed under outsourcing contracts and to halt such arrangements with private companies in the future.
The proposal has been presented by five MPs, led by Strategic Thinking Bloc spokesman Khalid Bu Onk.
They stressed the need to ensure job security, promote fairness and support the national workforce.
“This initiative addresses a pressing concern for many hardworking Bahraini employees who have served for years on temporary or outsourced contracts,” said Mr Bu Onk.
“Our aim is to provide them with stability and equal opportunities, in line with the state’s policies to enhance the role of national talent in government service.”
The explanatory memorandum accompanying the proposal highlights several objectives:
l Promoting Bahrainisation of government jobs, ensuring greater participation of the national workforce in the public sector.
l Ensuring fair salaries and benefits among employees performing the same tasks, eliminating disparities.
l Reducing reliance on private labour-supply companies.
The MPs argue that many Bahraini employees continue to work under temporary or outsourcing arrangements for long periods, despite their experience and service.
The proposal emphasises that immediate action is necessary to ensure social stability, uphold employment justice and enhance the efficiency of public institutions.
“We are presenting this proposal as urgent because the need for reform cannot wait,” said Mr Bu Onk.
“Regularising these positions not only benefits employees but also strengthens the overall performance and fairness of government operations.
“If approved, the move would mark a significant step towards long-term job security for Bahrainis in government service and signal a major shift in public sector employment policy.”
