Sitra is witnessing a major wave of municipal and infrastructure development, with projects progressing across the area as part of the Works Ministry’s strategy to enhance public services and improve citizens’ quality of life.
Capital Trustees Board services and public utilities committee chairman Mohammed Tawfiq Al Abbas praised the ministry for its ‘remarkable efforts and continuous commitment’ to advancing infrastructure in the area.
“The ministry is working tirelessly to provide the best services possible,” he said, adding that the current projects reflect ‘our shared aspirations’ to build modern, sustainable and high-quality service facilities.
Mr Al Abbas highlighted several major projects currently under implementation, noting that they serve residential areas, upgrade service networks and strengthen long-term infrastructure capacity.
The projects include:
Road and sewage services project - Sitra, Block 602:
This comprehensive project includes new road construction, speed bumps, underground conduits for future utilities, upgraded lighting, directional signs, traffic markings and both sewage and stormwater drainage networks.
The project is 88 per cent complete and scheduled for delivery by year’s end, at a total cost of BD4,421,083.
Sitra sewerage network - Block 604 (Phase 1):
Serving around 280 properties, the project includes 5,300 metres of main lines, 1,400 metres of branch lines, 725 inspection chambers, 280 household connections, and one pumping station.
It has reached 83pc completion and is expected to finish by year’s end, costing BD1,349,889.
Sitra sewerage network - Block 603:
Designed to serve 119 properties, this project involves 2,554 metres of main lines, 1,304 metres of branch lines, 256 inspection chambers, and a pumping station.
Progress stands at 31 per cent, with completion expected in the third quarter of 2026. The total cost amounts to BD2,320,550.
Sitra sewerage network - Block 604 (Phase 2):
Serving 20 properties, the works include 1,600 metres of main lines, 150 metres of branch lines, 62 inspection chambers, a pumping station, and decommissioning an older lift station.
The project is 40pc complete, with delivery expected by year’s end, at a cost of BD610,034.
North Sitra Sewage Treatment Plant expansion - Hybex Technology:
One of the most significant ongoing government investments, this project aims to boost capacity from 16,500 to 30,000 m³/day and supply treated water to the East Sitra Housing Town.
The expansion is 44pc complete, with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, at a total value of BD12,812,298.
In addition to network improvements, Sitra is also witnessing upgrades to prominent public facilities:
- Sitra pitch development
- Sitra Central Market revamp
- Opening of two new parks in East Sitra Housing Town (last month)
“These initiatives aim to enhance recreational spaces, promote community welfare, and provide modern amenities for families,” added Mr Al Abbas.
He also commended citizens and residents, noting that ‘their awareness and co-operation have greatly contributed to expediting project implementation’.
Mr Al Abbas thanked Health Minister Dr Jalila Al Sayyed for introducing new medical services at Sitra Health Centre, describing the move as ‘an important step towards improving healthcare accessibility for Sitra’s residents’.
“With multiple mega-projects progressing simultaneously, Sitra is poised for a transformative year in 2025 – marking one of the most ambitious phases of infrastructure development in the Capital Governorate,” said Mr Al Abbas.
