A rare species of ant has been discovered in Sharjah, according to Professor Dr Mustafa Sharaf of the Al Dhaid Wildlife Centre.
Named Carebara Sharjahensis, or the Sharjah Ant, this species is distinguished by unique head features and a uniform yellow coloration.
So far, researchers have found only a single specimen, suggesting that the species lives deep underground and rarely emerges to the surface.
This discovery marks the first officially documented Carebara species in the UAE and only the third recorded in the Arabian Peninsula.
