Tributes are pouring in for a promising young footballer whose sudden death has left Bahrain’s sporting and school communities in deep shock and grief.
Tekkers Football Academy Bahrain announced yesterday that it will remain closed until Sunday to honour the memory of Ramzi Nasr, an eight-year-old who was a cherished member of the academy.
His untimely death at home, reported in the GDN yesterday, has stunned members of the community.
Details surrounding the cause of death and his nationality have not been disclosed.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Tekkers described Ramzi as ‘one of the most beloved and treasured players of the Tekkers family’.
He was ‘truly one of our own’, the academy said.
“He brought joy, spirit, and warmth to every session, and he was adored by every single coach who had the privilege of working with him and was loved by his team mates over the years. His smile, his energy, and the way he lit up the pitch will forever stay with us.”
The academy extended its condolences to Ramzi’s parents, Nael and Rheam, and his sisters Zara and Siena, pledging to honour his memory in every way possible.
“In light of this tragic event, and out of respect for Ramzi and his family, we have made the decision to close the Bahrain academy until Sunday. We feel it is important to honour his memory and allow our community the space to come together, reflect, and support one another.
“As Tekkers, we will do everything we can to celebrate the amazing little boy he was. He will always be part of our family, and his impact will never be forgotten. We will remember you always, Ramzi, for the special person you were.”
Condolence messages also poured in from friends of the family, many of who commented on the academy post, expressing their grief and sharing memories of Ramzi’s infectious enthusiasm and bright personality.
St Christopher’s School, where Ramzi was a student, paid tribute yesterday in an Instagram post.
“St Christopher’s School shares its sincere condolences with the family and loved ones of our beloved student, Ramzi Nasr, who recently passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones and with the whole school community during this sad and difficult time,” it said.
The post was preceded by St Christopher’s principal Dr Simon Watson’s message to all the school parents, as reported earlier in the GDN.
The 1st Bahrain Scouts group, which Ramzi was a part of, said they were ‘deeply heartbroken by the sudden passing of their beloved Beaver.’
“Thank you, Ramzi, for the joy, light, and beautiful memories you shared with us during camps and weekly sessions, moments that will remain in our hearts forever,” the group said.
“Your smile will never be forgotten. We stand close to his family, his little friends, and the entire community who are facing this unimaginable loss. May we all find strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time.
“Rest in peace, Ramzi.”
