A tragic head-on collision between two government buses in Tamil Nadu’s Sivaganga district on Sunday evening left at least 11 people dead and more than 60 injured.
The crash occurred around 5pm near Vivekananda Polytechnic College.
According to local media reports, the impact was so severe that the front sections of both buses were crushed, and passengers were thrown from their seats. Several individuals were trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency services responded promptly. Eight victims died at the scene, while three others succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
In total, 64 people received medical attention. Of these, 33 remain hospitalized, while 31 were discharged after receiving first aid.
The accident happened on a straight stretch of well-maintained road, prompting investigators to consider driver fatigue or sudden swerving as possible causes. Authorities are reviewing onboard records and interviewing survivors to determine the exact circumstances.
