Kuwait’s Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) has announced a ban on the commercial import of dogs and cats, effectively prohibiting the sale of imported pets.
This decision aims to address the growing stray dog population in the country.
PAAAFR also plans to establish an integrated shelter for stray dogs spanning 10,000 square meters.
Animal Health and Epidemic Control supervisor Dr Ahmad Al Hamad stated that each citizen will be permitted to import only one dog per year for personal use, in line with the regulations.
He added that the recent surge in strays has prompted PAAAFR to intensify field operations and strengthen regulatory measures to protect residents and maintain ecological balance.
