VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain fell to Egypt 1-3 (28-30, 25-23, 17-25, 17-25) last night in the first Arab Challenge Cup, currently being played in Amman, Jordan.
The Bahrainis are one of six senior men’s volleyball national teams taking part in the event, which is organised and run by the Arab Volleyball Association (AVA) in cooperation with the Jordan Volleyball Federation.
Their setback yesterday followed an opening day victory against Palestine in three sets.
In other results last night, Tunisia swept past the home side 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-18) and Kuwait beat Palestine 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-17).
Bahrain will be looking to bounce back this evening when they take on Kuwait at 7pm in their third assignment.
Their penultimate fixture will be played on Thursday against Tunisia at 3pm, and then they wrap up their campaign in the league-type tournament against the hosts Jordanians on Friday at 7pm.
The national team’s French head coach Arnaud Josserand has 14 players in the championship, including Naser Anan, Mohammed Anan, Ali Ebrahim, Mahmood Alafyah, Hassan Al Warqaa, Ayman Harwana, Abbas Al Khabbaz, Hussain Mansoor, Sayed Hashim Issa, Mahmoud Abdulwahed, Mohammed Abdulla, Sayed Mohammed Alabbar, Hani Alawi, and Mahmood Abdulhussain.
