CRICKET – Abraj Super Kings and JDs Avengers were both victorious on the latest match day in season six of the Abraj Premier League (APL6).
Super Kings registered an emphatic five-wicket victory over Super Giants 2.0 in their contest.
Electing to field first, Super Kings restricted Super Giants to 122/6 in 20 overs. Mishal Soni top scored with a composed 49 off 41 balls, while Ali Asgar added a brisk 26 and Umesh 19.
However, disciplined bowling led by Haresh Balan Nair, who claimed three wickets for 17 runs, and skipper Sushant Khar’s twin strikes with Viral Desai taking one wicket, restricted the scoring momentum.
In response, Super Kings showcased a dominant batting performance, chasing the target in just 14.1 overs. Explosive contributions from Ashwani Bhatia (25 off 10), Sushant Khar (14 off 10), and Desai (13 off 10) ensured a comfortable chase.
Despite a few early breakthroughs by Super Giants’ bowlers – with Ankit Bhutda (2/12) and Vinod, Ali, and Mishal each taking one wicket – the Super Kings’ strong middle-order sealed the win, further strengthening their campaign in the tournament.
Nair’s all-round brilliance earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Meanwhile, Avengers beat Abraj Rocking Royals by three wickets in their match.
Avengers won the toss and chose to field, restricting Rocking Royals to 80 runs in 15.4 overs. Key contributions came from Akhil Jain (15), Himanshu (12), and Sagar Dholaria (13). However, regular wickets and disciplined bowling from Avengers – especially Dinesh Abraj (2/6), Hozefa Petiwala (2/7), and Kumar, Sadiq, Jignesh Dhanesha, and Mahesh, who each took one wicket – kept Rocking Royals to a modest total.
In reply, Avengers chased the target in 15.5 overs, scoring 84/7. Dhanesha played a crucial unbeaten knock of 21, supported by Sapan 11 and Dinesh Abraj’s steady 11.
From Rocking Royals’ side, disciplined bowling came from Vignesh 2/11 and Anil, Sagar, and Suresh Ashwani, who each took one wicket.
Despite losing wickets at intervals, Avengers held their nerve and secured their three-wicket win, with standout performances in both batting and bowling proving decisive.
Dhanesha was named the match’s MVP.
