TENNIS – ZIYAD emerged as the first-ever champion of the St Christopher’s School under-19 tennis competition, which featured a high-level field of 15 talented players.
Ziyad secured the title in the tournament’s main draw after an intense final, where his opponent Adam unfortunately fell and twisted his ankle.
The main draw saw numerous matches go down to the wire, often being decided by one last game or a crucial tie-break. Mohamad came third in the category.
The championship was structured as a knockout event, providing maximum opportunity for competition through a Plate draw for first-round losers, which ensured that more players had the chance to vie for a trophy and medal.
Rayyan was the winner of the Plate competition, which had its own set of fiercely contested matches. Oliver finished as the runner-up while Cian was third.
St Christopher’s School and coach Simon Bourner expressed their immense pride in the sportsmanship and high standard displayed by all competitors.
They made a special mention to Mariam and Rehanna, who bravely joined the boys’ category and played exceptionally well throughout the event.
Following the success of the tournament, an under-15 competition is scheduled to be held in the next term.
