The Trump administration said on Monday (December 8) it wants airlines and airports to offer travellers healthier food options, exercise equipment and family-friendly features like playspaces and nursing facilities. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said that he had called a majority of major US airline CEOs and asked them what they could do to improve the travel experience.
Sean Duffy, US Transportation Secretary said, "So, I am announcing at DOT that we have one billion dollars in funding for grant programs to make the experience better in airports. And it is pretty wide open what airports ask for a grant. But it might be, I want to expand the play areas for kids. I want additional nursing pods for nursing mothers. Maybe I want a work out area where people might get some blood flowing doing pull-ups, or some step ups."
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said at a press conference at Reagan Washington National Airport he had reached out to a majority of major US airline CEOs asking them what they could do to improve the experience.
Duffy last month urged airlines to add healthier options and dump salty pretzels and calorie-laden cookies. Duffy also urged airports to add more dedicated spaces for young children and exercise equipment and to boost places for mothers to nurse their children.
