The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Bahrain Section successfully concluded its final Knowledge Sharing Session of 2025, bringing together leaders, professionals, and emerging talents from across the energy sector.
The session featured a keynote speech by Dr Hasan Al Mulla titled ‘Energy Transition – 10 Lessons Learned from Early Movers’, highlighting how countries and energy companies that led early in the transition offer indispensable lessons for today’s decision-makers. Drawing on more than two decades of experience in major national energy projects, Dr Al Mulla explained that successful transitions require more than modern technologies – they demand the right sequencing of priorities, starting with energy security, ensuring affordability, and then scaling sustainability.
He emphasised the importance of infrastructure readiness, industrial strategy, talent development, policy stability, collaboration, and public trust, noting that the Gulf region could position itself to lead what he described as the “second era of energy leadership.”
In his remarks, SPE Bahrain chairperson Abdulla AlThawadi thanked Oil and Environment Minister, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs and SPE Bahrain honorary chairperson Dr Mohamed Bin Daina for his guidance, support, and continuous encouragement throughout the year.
Mr AlThawadi also thanked Bapco Energies for its sponsorship and support that enabled the society to sustain a strong and impactful knowledge-sharing platform.
He highlighted that SPE Bahrain held ten major events in 2025 including knowledge sharing session, workshops and courses, which formed a comprehensive technical agenda that spanned subsurface innovation, digital transformation, operational excellence, and emerging strategic themes. These efforts elevated learning, fostered collaboration, and strengthened the society’s role as a leading hub for knowledge exchange across the energy community.
Looking ahead, the section announced that the 2026 Technical Programme is shaping into one of its most ambitious lineups yet. Planned themes include next-generation reservoir technologies, digital subsurface workflows, AI-driven optimisation, process engineering advancements, safety innovation, and the rising role of human-factors engineering. These topics reflect global industry trends and SPE Bahrain’s commitment to nurturing future-ready talent.
SPE Bahrain now turns its attention towards a major milestone – the silver jubilee celebration, planned for April 2026, marking more than 25 years of collaboration, service, and technical excellence.
