A delegation from the parliamentary division of Bahrain participated in a virtual briefing organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on strengthening the political participation of women and youth through mentoring, as part of efforts to promote inclusive participation in legislative processes.
The session brought together parliamentarians, youth representatives and civil society stakeholders to exchange expertise and discuss approaches to advancing political empowerment, particularly among young women.
The delegation included Shura Council Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee chairperson Dalal Al Zayed, and MP Hassan Ibrahim.
Ms Al Zayed highlighted that Bahrain’s constitutional and legislative framework supports women’s political participation, noting the role of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and SCW president, in advancing national policies and programmes for women’s empowerment.
She also noted Bahrain’s focus on structured programmes aimed at preparing youth for engagement in political and parliamentary work, including training on legislative processes and opportunities to observe parliamentary sessions.
The session included presentations on mentoring initiatives and strategies to enhance youth participation in political life, with a focus on addressing the needs of young women parliamentarians.
