The Traffic Council has approved the appointment of a consultancy firm to conduct a comprehensive study and has formed a working group from the relevant authorities to co-ordinate efforts, assess current congestion levels, define the roles of all involved entities, and adopt leading practices in preparation for a comprehensive congestion-reduction strategy.
This came as Interior Minister and Traffic Council chairman General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday chaired the council’s meeting.
The council discussed its agenda, including the project to develop a national strategy for reducing traffic congestion as part of priority government programmes.
General Shaikh Rashid emphasised the importance of continuing efforts to enhance road safety, noting the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad to protect lives and property, and the support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
General Shaikh Rashid underlined the importance of legislative measures in addressing congestion.
The council reviewed progress on smart camera installations and their role in improving road safety.
It was briefed on the development and expansion of Road 76 in Sakhir and discussed the need to address the accumulation of heavy trucks in residential areas.
A presentation from the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry covered the proposed link between the King Hamad Causeway and Bahrain Northern Road, as well as the GCC railway route connecting Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
General Shaikh Rashid expressed appreciation to council members for their continued efforts and highlighted the importance of field operations and round-the-clock readiness to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj, and Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma attended the meeting.
